Lesson #1: Shoot

Go out, set your camera in “P” mode, find one subject and make 36 photographs. It doesn’t have to be anything special. Just something that catches your eye. An old building in town, things at the park, whatever! They don’t all have to be keepers. They don’t even have to look good at all. You can even go out and chain-gun (i.e.- mash your shutter button down and let ‘er rip) those photos. Don’t change any settings, leave it in “P” and shoot away. You can shoot more than 36, but don’t shoot any less.

Then go home and put them in your computer. Select 5 (that’s five) out of your 36 that you think are the best photographs of the shoot. Enjoy your photos! Use the program that came with the camera to look at the photos and the settings the camera chose (aperture, shutter speed, ISO). Don’t worry if you don’t understand what the numbers mean, you’ll learn soon enough. DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING! EVER!
